I like the real sense of community
and the support that Rain offers to all of
the people it helps. I have completed training
programmes that have allowed me to gain
qualifications and also it teaches
you how to manage yourself
Nana Sebeh, has been helped by Rain Trust
and now is a volunteer

What do you do at Rain, Nana?

I help people with general office tasks including answering the phone, photocopying and helping people receive the correct information.

Why should people volunteer at Rain?

You get a chance to help others and gain experience that will help with future job opportunities.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer, we have a diverse selection of people helping us from all different backgrounds, some with long term health issues and some with out.

This includes Asylum Seekers who are allowed to volunteer with Rain, (any money received being a reimbursement of their expenses, so in no way breaking a terms of their status).

Volunteering

A dedicated team of volunteers supports Rain, with a variety of roles that without their input we wouldn’t be able to provide the service we do. We are always looking to recruit new people for these roles from all Social and Ethnic backgrounds to help us.

You don’t need any previous experience to volunteer or knowledge of helping within a charity. You can help by simply being part of a team, organising an event, undertaking admin tasks or just lending a hand where it’s needed.

All our volunteers choose the work they would like to do and are fully trained with in that role.

We pride ourselves on always giving our full support and supervision to all of our volunteers and we hope they gain in some way from their time with us.

Volunteering & Receiving Benefits

When you volunteer at Rain we can reimburse your travel costs and some of your other expenses.

If you receive any of the following Benefits your payments will not be effected: Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance or Job Seekers Allowance.

In relation to Job Seekers Allowance you have to actively look for paid work as well as any volunteering you undertake – for further advice please contact your local Job Centre.

Any repayment of expenses that you get from Rain will not affect your benefits, as this is not a payment but a refund of something that you have already spent.
